How do we improve our mental health?

Looking after your mental health is constant practice, daily routine, it is  not something we should just do if we are feeling low, anxious or stressed. It’s something we should think about all the time and invest in, just like with our physical health as they go hand in hand, it helps us manage the stress and difficult times in the future, also reducing the risk of physical health problems

There are lots of things we can do to look after our mental health and wellbeing

you are what you tell yourself

The way we think, feel and tell ourselves, this reflects in how we behave  as they are linked. Sometimes we develop patterns of thoughts or behaviours that are unhelpful so  learning to recognising them, and taking steps to think about things differently, can improve your mental health and wellbeing.

Be in the present moment

If we take time to be aware of ourselves and be in the present moment, noticing our own thoughts and feelings, and the world around us, we can gain a better perspective. Mediation gives us space and helps us be mindful in our day to day life

Get good sleep

Try to have Good-quality sleep, this makes a big difference to how we feel mentally and physically, so it’s important to get enough, make sure to switch off from electronic devices such as your phone and TV, take time to relax before going to bed, go for a walk, meditate, create the space for down time

Connect/ Engage

Connect with others spend quality time with friends or family, especially those with similar interests, talking to someone about how we are feeling or finding ways to help other people can all help stop you from feeling lonely and improve your mental health and wellbeing, connecting with nature also helps, why not walk and talk, which is a great way to engage with your family/ friends

Lifestyle changes

Being active, enjoying the outdoors and having a healthy lifestyle all impact on how we feel.  We all have bad habits but making small lifestyle changes will have an large impact on your life, especially if you stay committed to making a change
